Career Background

"John Sabat has been a Portfolio Manager in Point72’s quantitative business Cubist Systematic Strategies for more than 20 years, where he runs global mid- and high-frequency equities, futures, and fixed-income strategies. John began his career at D. E. Shaw & Co. in the international equities statistical arbitrage group and later founded and led the firm's share class arbitrage strategy. He has also worked at CIBC and HBK Investments and has experience implementing index rebalance strategies and systematizing traditional discretionary strategies. He is also an advisory committee member for the venture fund Upper90 and sits on the advisory board of Sortium, an AI-based software development company.

John is actively involved with education non-profits and serves on the Board of Trustees of Education Reform Now, a non-profit that works to improve public school education, especially for low-income students and students of color. He co-chairs their annual Take 'Em to School charity poker tournament in New York and also helps organize their annual NBA All-Star Weekend charity poker tournament. As a minority owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, John contributed to the team’s numerous social justice and education initiatives. In addition, he was a founding board member of the non-profit public charter school Harlem Success Academy 4 and serves on the Success Academy Leadership Council. He is also an active member of the Advisory Council for Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth (CTY), and serves on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) and the University of Michigan Latino Alumni Association (UMLA).

John holds a Master of Science degree in Statistics from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where he graduated summa cum laude and received the Ernest Kurnow Award for excellence in the field of statistics. He earned his B.B.A. degree in Finance from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, graduating summa cum laude. John is also a CFA charterholder. He lives in New York City with his wife and three children."
