Summer Business Experiences
There's no better way to develop professional skills than through real-world experience. Apply what you've learned in your first year and advance your skill set with a Summer Business Experience, a curricular requirement for all rising MBA 2 students. Whether you work at a local nonprofit or start-up, take on a research assistantship, or land an internship at a top employer, there are many ways to fulfill this requirement.
Requirements:
Apply yourself for 6-12 weeks
The summer internship must be a minimum of 20 hours per week
Gain practical experience with any type of organization or sector
Work within or outside of the United States
Compensated or uncompensated opportunities qualify
Find an Internship
Secure an internship in your target industry or sector with the extensive support of our Career Development Office (CDO). We actively promote internship opportunities through both on-campus engagements and job postings. You can also benefit from access to personalized career coaches, peer coaches, and a number of professional career clubs. Desai Accelerator
Experience what it's like to run a startup by working with early-stage businesses based in Ann Arbor.
Zell Lurie Institute
Develop your entrepreneurial skills by leading a project for a startup company looking to reach the next stage in their business development. The Zell Lurie Institute offers funding support for traditional, student-initiated, and self-hosted internships.
Business+Impact
Connect with nonprofits and organizations focused on solving societal challenges like poverty, infrastructure, and pollution. Stipends are available for successful applicants.
Global Impact Internship Program
Get a global business perspective and work with organizations based in emerging markets. Funding support is available for both student-initiated internships and internships coordinated by the William Davidson Institute.
Tauber Team Projects
Tackle a highly-visible, operations-related challenge for a major corporation alongside fellow MBAs and engineering students. This is a paid, for-credit course available to students enrolled in the Tauber Institute program.
The Erb Institute
Find ways to help the city of Detroit preserve recent health, human, and environmental gains as part of the Erb Corps, available to MBAs completing a dual degree with the Erb Institute.
Work with Faculty
Through research assistantships, students can find opportunities to work directly with a faculty member whose research aligns with their career interests. Our Career Development Office works with faculty to post summer opportunities throughout the year.
