Sylvia Herzog
Sylvia Herzog, Director, The Charcoal Project MBA/MPP 1988 Sylvia Herzog is currently the Director of The Charcoal Project (TCP), a US based nonprofit that focuses on finding sustainable solutions to alleviate energy poverty and the impact of wood energy consumption on climate change. Sylvia joined TCP in 2010 because of a strong interest in finding renewable energy solutions to combat global warming and deforestation. She manages TCP’s policy research, on-the-ground projects and the development of ventures, like the Harvest Fuel Initiative, which provides assistance to sustainable biomass energy producers. While at TCP, Sylvia has used her experience working with entrepreneurs to help clean energy businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa achieve growth and scale.
Previously, Sylvia worked as Program Director at the Women’s Enterprise Development Center, where she worked closely with entrepreneurs at all stages to help them with their businesses. Sylvia has worked in various positions in banking and finance, including private placements and relationship management.
She has an MBA, a Master of Public Policy and a BA in Economics, all from the University of Michigan. Sylvia is an Alumni Board Member at the University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy and she resides with her family in Westchester County, New York.
