Samira (Sammy) Carlson
I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and studied Information Systems & Analytics and Computer Science at Miami University in Ohio (tech geek? Absolutely!). I initially considered a career as a data scientist, but I quickly realized that I thrive in collaborative team environments, which sparked my interest in applying my tech background to business challenges. After graduation, I joined Deloitte in enterprise technology consulting, where I supported clients in the technology, media, and telecommunications industries to optimize their business processes and enhance user experiences. I chose to attend business school to deepen my understanding of the business landscape, further develop my leadership skills, and focus on strategy to drive impactful decisions and solutions.
From the moment I started my business school application journey, it was clear that Ross was the front-runner. The focus on collaboration and hands-on learning really resonates with my style. I love the authentic culture at Ross—it's a breath of fresh air, and it feels great to be back in the Midwest! The community is fantastic; everyone is friendly and ready to lend a hand. Plus, Ross provides strong support for learning disabilities, creating an inclusive environment for all.
At Ross, I’m involved in all aspects of fitness and athletics. Having lived in Denver, Colorado for the past few years, maintaining an outdoorsy lifestyle is essential to me. I’m focused on balancing that active spirit with the vibrant community and social events here—it's important for me not to lose that part of myself while connecting with others. I moved to Ann Arbor with my partner, who has also been loving the community and making new friends. Together, we enjoy exploring the area and indulging in the local ice cream shops.
