Sergio Chayet
Adjunct Professor of Technology and Operations
Professor Sergio Chayet teaches Project Management in the Master of Supply Chain
Management and Weekend MBA programs, and Operations Management in the Weekend MBA
program.
His research interests include: The operations-marketing interface; stochastic modeling of
production, service and inventory systems; and operational design issues in competitive and
strategic decisions. He has published articles in Manufacturing and Service Operations
Management, Naval Research Logistics, IIE Transactions, and Journal of Mathematical Physics,
in addition to two peer-reviewed book chapters.
Chayet received his PhD and MS in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences from
Northwestern University, MS in Physics from the University of Chicago, and separate BS
degrees in Physics and Mathematics (both summa cum laude) from Mexico’s National
University (UNAM).
He has been a full-time faculty member at the Olin Business School, Washington University in
St. Louis since 2005, where he is Teaching Professor of Supply Chain, Operations and
Technology, and Academic Director of MS in Supply Chain Management Programs. He teaches
Operations Management and Project Management in the MBA, Professional MBA, and MS in
Supply Chain Management programs. He has also taught Global Supply Chain Management in
the school’s Executive MBA program.
Chayet has consulted for firms in aerospace, manufacturing, consumer goods, medical
transportation, fintech, biotechnology, fast food, law, and pharmaceutical sales strategy, and
has taught open enrollment and custom corporate seminars on several operations
management, supply chain management and project management topics.
Professor Chayet has received the Reid Teaching Award from the Olin Business School 49 times.
This award to the best teacher on a given program is determined by student votes of a
graduating class. In 2016 he was named a “Favorite Business School MBA Professor” by Poets
and Quants.
Since 2009, Chayet has taught Operations Management and Project Management courses in
the Evening and Weekend MBA programs as visiting faculty in the summer at The University of
Chicago Booth School of Business. Chayet also taught Operations Management as a visiting
faculty at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in summer 2022.
