Introducing the Incredible Michigan Ross Full-Time MBA Class of 2023, Who Have Already Broken Records for Diversity, Test Scores, and Academics
As they begin their first classes, the newest cohort of Full-Time MBA students at the Ross School of Business is the most diverse and one of the strongest in the program’s history.
The 398 members of the Full-Time MBA Class of 2023 join the Michigan Ross community with the highest percentage of women ever (46%), largest class of students in the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management of any business school (66), highest average GMAT score (722), and average GPA (3.53). In addition, 36% are U.S. students of color (tying the record from last year), 11% are first-generation students, and 5% are veterans.
“The Class of 2023 has broken nearly all our admissions records after being selected from what was our most competitive applicant pool ever,” said Soojin Kwon, managing director of Full-Time MBA Admissions and Program at Michigan Ross. “We are incredibly excited to have these accomplished and talented students a part of our Full-Time MBA Program in our Michigan Ross community.”
Hailing from 43 countries around the world, the recording-breaking class of Full-Time MBAs boasts diversity across educational and professional backgrounds.
Members of the Class of 2023 have attended over 200 universities, with majors ranging from aeronautical engineering to journalism, musical theater, and zoology, among more than 100 others. There are 48 students who have already earned graduate degrees, and another 65 have started dual degrees at the University of Michigan. These include dual-degree programs with the School for Environment and Sustainability, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Public Health, Ford School of Public Policy, and School of Information.
This class has worked at over 300 organizations that span a wide range of industries from consulting to finance, tech, the military, healthcare, education and nonprofit, media and entertainment, and professional sports and fitness. Among the students are:
- A former international race car driver who worked at Boston Consulting Group
- A co-founder of an on-demand haircut service in San Francisco that he started during the pandemic
- A violinist who has played with three Grammy Award winners
- A Navy veteran and nonprofit manager who has led volunteer events with President Barack Obama and Jon Stewart
- An investment analyst from Trinidad and Tobago who helps manage the largest investment fund in the Caribbean region
- A former Teach For America teacher who created a culturally relevant financial literacy program for National Basketball Association rookies
- A professional soccer player in Japan who went on to work at LinkedIn
Update on Full-Time MBA admissions for 2021-2022
Due to COVID-19, the 2020-21 application cycle was the first time that Michigan Ross offered a standardized test waiver for the Full-Time MBA Program. Although 82% of the Class of 2023 submitted a test score, Ross will continue to offer the waiver option as pandemic-related challenges remain this year.
Additionally, the Full-Time MBA admissions team will not be holding in-person events this year and will again conduct events virtually, given the success of last year’s application cycle and continuing health and safety concerns. To help prospective students learn about Michigan Ross and its culture, Kwon recently shared a number of ways to experience Ann Arbor and gain insight into the MBA program virtually.
