Courses at Ross and Prerequisites
When can I begin taking courses after admission to my program?
Our programs are all full-time cohorts with a single intake. The MM, MSCM, and MBAn Programs all begin with summer orientation in June. The MAcc Program begins in the fall term with an orientation in August. You may not begin a program in any term other than its regular start term.
What are the prerequisite requirements for the MSCM Program?
While there are no specific course prerequisites for the MSCM Program, you must have earned or expect to earn a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business, economics, or an equivalent quantitative major by the start of the program.
What are the prerequisite requirements for the MM Program?
MM applicants must have completed a statistics or pre-calculus course prior to the start of the program with a grade of C or higher. Courses can be in progress at the time of application, and any course earning college credits, such as an AP course, will meet this requirement as long as it is reported on your undergraduate transcript.
What are the prerequisite requirements for the MAcc Program?
MAcc applicants are required to complete five prerequisite courses. These include Microeconomics, Statistics, Intro to Financial Accounting, Intro to Managerial Accounting, and Intermediate Financial Accounting. If Intermediate Financial Accounting is delivered over two courses, both must be completed to satisfy the requirement. Courses can be in progress at the time of application. Advanced Placement credit, which appears on a college transcript, can fulfill the economics and/or statistics prerequisite requirements as long as the credits are recorded on your undergraduate transcript.
What are the prerequisite requirements for the MBAn Program?
Candidates are required to satisfy a minimum of one college course for credit in computer programming prior to the start of the program. The course may be complete, in progress, or intended at the time of application submission; however, strong preference will be given to completed coursework. Additionally, your undergraduate degree must be in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business, economics, or an equivalent quantitative major.
Program Eligibility
Who is eligible for MM admission?
The MM Program is designed for non-business majors with less than two years of full-time work experience. If you completed or are enrolled in a business or commerce degree or your major was taught within the business school at your university, this degree would be redundant, so you're not eligible to apply. If you have any questions about whether or not you're eligible to apply, please contact us at [email protected] at any time.
Is work experience required for the MSCM Program?
Work experience is not required to enter the MSCM Program. However, we expect most applicants to have some form of industry engagement prior to the beginning of the program — this can be in the form of full-time or part-time work, internships, or focused studies. If you do have work experience, we welcome your expertise in this program as well.
Resources at Ross
What CPA Exam resources does Ross provide?
While the MAcc curriculum does not include a CPA exam prep course, the program prepares you for your professional exams in several ways. We host a CPA exam workshop where you will learn the logistics of meeting exam education requirements, when to apply, and how to think about your testing schedule. Your student success advisor will then share a Canvas course called "CPA Ready" that pulls several resources in one spot. After the workshop, they will also offer one-on-one student appointments to help determine if you need additional classes. Remember that the entire core curriculum is exam preparation as well — we’re proud that Ross is well-known for producing Elijah Watt Sells Award winners!
What career development resources are available?
Ross is home to its own Career Development Office, which includes a career coach dedicated to One-Year Master’s students. While enrolled, you will have access to assessments and other career exploration tools, workshops, peer coaching, and networking opportunities to assist in your job search. Given the short nature of one-year programs, many students begin their engagement with the CDO office prior to orientation.
What action-based learning opportunities exist within the programs?
The MM, MSCM, and MBAn Programs all include a Consulting Studio course where students are paired with companies to provide real-time solutions. In these courses, Ross reviews proposals submitted by companies from across the country, selecting those that are the most relevant to each program. If you’re enrolled in one of these programs, you will receive project summaries and engage directly with project sponsors at a kickoff event.
After the event, you will rate your top projects, and Ross will then conduct a matching process. Students then work with their corporate sponsors and faculty advisors throughout the winter term. We love these courses because they allow students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real situations in an environment where it’s safe to take risks and learn from failure.
